Thanks for noting this. I'll take a look. We tested in several browser to eventually get things working as best as css would allow. It's odd that the type in your screenshot is so much larger. Do have a custom font size selected in your browser?

You have some css floating errors in Firefox 3 beta 5 (it's a nightly) under Ubuntu Gutsy (it should be there in the windows version too, as it just uses Gecko). It also appears in Epiphany (using an older version of the Gecko engine), Opera 9.5, and Firefox 2.0.0.12.

It's probably just you need a breakline after the price.

Other than that, how did you get the arrow in the main menu? When you click on a link, it will place that arrow under the current menu item. I know it is a css class that is being applied, but do you know how it is being applied? Just curious.

I was in Firefox under Linux, which might have been affecting the pageview (the rendering engine is a bit different). Works fine in the latest Firefox nightly (as of today) though .

sunzhoujian: I did all the work myself over the course of a few weeks.


paulFPF: All of the work was done from scratch. We set up a focus group to see how our users were navigating our old site and then determined a new direction and design from there. The goal was to create all display elements including images and positioning through the CSS but unfortunately OR still has quite a few hard coded styling so there are a couple spots were we ran into snags.

I'm finding that the best way to get around things like that is to just override via an addon. Over the years, I've had to manually change things in the OR core because they were just laid out silly, mostly the listings page. The real headache is the admin panel as many of the things done there can't reasonably be changed without creating a WHOLE NEW admin backend. I had a plan to do so about half a year back, but the client who wanted it backed down so I never followed through.

Other than that, most things are easy to fix, which is great

I like the set up and the look of the site. I'm new to this but I guess I have seen open realty sites in the past. Nice template.

We first launched the site over 3 years ago and it's been going steady ever since. We did a lot of local guerrilla marketing and word of mouth advertising initially. National Companies don't really worry us too much because our goal is really to provide a more personal, local feel to the site. We also handle more of the listing creation process and take photos which a lot of people locally have liked.

I love this site. I'm hoping to do something similar in my area. It's completely inspiring. Thanks for posting it!

How did you get it rolling? That's the big question I have. How do you compete with the monster national companies out there and how do you get your site in motion?

I think I've used both the csssearch and quicksearch addons found here in the forums. I did some customizing to get them to look the way I wanted
