Default uploading custom template not working

    Hi guys,

I've followed these instructions from the thread "how to install a template":

    A) To install your template make a folder called What ever (open-realty-templates)
upload all its contents into the open realty template directory folder.

    B) Log into admin select site config, see Template Settings then
    Site Template: Select your design.

    C) Go To the bottom of page and save changes, and thats it logout and go.

I´ve done exactly what it says... I´ve uploaded a main.html file, uploaded my images folder, my css, my .js file etc.
    All uploaded to:
    "my domain/OR 2.5.6/templates"

But with no luck... there´s just my navigation bar... nothing else... no pix nothing.

I then saw that you needed to upload "next_prev.html" file to my template folder, which i did...

    Still nothing...

I designed the template myself in DW, is this the problem, am i missing loads of important things because of this?

What am I missing, please help its really doing my head in!

    Many thanks in advance,
    G

Without seeing what you have uploaded it is very difficult to say what has gone wrong. Could you post a link to your site?

    Easiest Method:

Create a new template directory named new_template

Take an existing template, and copy all files to your new_template directory.

Make your changes to the template files you copied.

If you created your new template from scratch without using existing template files as a guide, you'll be missing a lot of stuff. Using DW is fine, just stay out of WYSIWYG mode.

thanks so much for your help.

    the site is currently at:

    www.test.rebelwebdesign.co.uk

couple of q´s for the sandking:
I´ve already made a new folder, and copied all my files to it... I´ve made changes to the files like the image links etc, are there any changes I´m missing?

Also when you say, you´ll be missing a lot of stuff, like what? And how can i get whats needed?

The site I´m trying to create is mega simple in that my friend only wants to upload new property details and remove sold property details, we´re talking only around 150 properties here.
Also when a user is interested in a property he wants a more info button on each property that will bring up an email contact form cotaining the property code.

    Thats it.
No searches, or any of the other bells and whistles OR can provide.

So I was hoping just my simple template could work...

    Thanks again in advance,

    G

Stuff like the template tags that create a lot of OR's dynamic content, like search forms.

If you start with an existing OR template and make your design changes to it, you will be able to see all the template tags, and then have the option of removing any you don't want/need.

Also, run your finished site through an HTML validation service, you will likely catch a lot of errors that way.
