    Default A quick IDX/frame question.

    Hi folks ... I'm helping a friend migrate a Real Estate agent's web-site from an IDX service (which just drops a search engine into a frame) to a RETS-server system.

    It's a relatively small agency (20 agents), serving a rural area (Amador County,CA).

    I'm a mid-skill-level php/javascript/mysql/html/css developer -- but this is my first time into the Real Estate area -- so please forgive any misuse of RE terminology.

    The website is currently hosted on a 1&1 shared server. My understanding is that I'd have to move to a dedicated server to access RETS (port numbers, chron jobs and the like) -- so I'd be considering other services, including Transparent Technologies.

    The website currently just drops a real estate IDX search engine into frames on two pages -- one for the agency's listings, and one for the county.

    It seems to me that the quickest way forward would be to set up an IDX-like server which could just do the same thing.

    Is this possible with Open-Realty?

    I should read the FINE manual, but I'm sure you guys could give me a yes/no/maybe answer in a few milliseconds.

    Transparent Tech makes a compliant RETS import add-on for Open-Realty, no frames.

    Thanks ... I'd already seen that. It does the

    RETS --> MySql

    step, presumably with automatic nightly updates.

    But that's only half the problem .. my question is whether I can use OpenRealty to display a search engine and results into an existing frame:

    My current call is just :

    <frame src="http://www.IDX-SERVICE.com/idx/search.cfm?cid=12345">

    Can I replace THAT with

    <frame src="http://www.SOME-OPEN-REALTY-SERVER.com/SOME-SEARCH-TEMPLATE/search.cfm?cid=12345">

    I asked the same questions on a Transparent Tech sales inquiry form.

    Thanks.

    And got a prompt response. I'll probably set up an OR trial (without the RETS add-on) just to get a feel for it.

    I've got accounts on 1and1, dreamhost and pair (all shared servers)

    Any recommendations on which would be best for doing a quick OR trial?
    (Dreamhost was better than 1and1 for drupal, for instance).

    The one that gives you the best support.
