Default My host server shout down my OR 3.1

This morning with out any reason my host shout down my site with the OR 3.1.

After asking them what was the problem, they just said to me the my site was taking 80% of their sever resource, and very strangely, the said if I want to activate my site I should fix this problem in an hour.
This is crazy, I have not do anything to the site or to the OR, and I do not understand the problem. They just send me a list of queries my site received thinking that I should understand the problem, but the reason, I don't. Now that they deactivate my site I can not see the error log or do anything.

If you know anything about this kind of problem let me know.

    Grazie!

    Marcello

I write here a part of what they sent me:

    Bummer, find a better host.

Without telling you exactly what the problem is, throwing a bunch a SQL queries around isn't telliing you our us anything. Sounds like they don't know either and just need something or someone to blame.

The host server said that the deactivate my site because the queries of my site were taking 80% of the server mysql resources.
They say that the queries generated by the OR they have tendency to accumulate and go over the limit of the of the setting on the mysql.
Also they say that this can be because of a corrupted table, because of repeating code, not enough space and etc.

They say that I should use a virtual xen citrix server or HA server or phisical server.

I am really, do not where to start, if any one have any advice I will really apreciate!

    Grazie!

It's easy enough to regularly use 80% of something that is too small to begin with.

This sounds like you are trying to use OR with a budget host that over-shares their servers. Hosts that do this heavily restrict what you can do in terms of using server resources, and if you use too much in their opinion, it is cheaper for them to shut you off and lose $5/mo, then to have 1000 customers with very simple sites on the same server asking them why things are slow. These places operate under a business model that expects a high customer "churn rate", and people who pay them every month but don't actually use any server resources are what keep them in business. You can ask how many accounts are installed on your server, but the host will probably evade that question or tell you they cannot say.

The exact same thing happens to people who have busy sites in terms of traffic, you hit a certain point and they want you to move, because good, dependable, and highly-available hosting costs real money.

Maybe you have a lot of listings and a lot of traffic, and your host is justifiably asking you to upgrade your hosting to match? I have seen large sites where google has caused it to exceed server resources by sending-out 10-20 spider bots at the same time.

Solution: Obtain better hosting at a better hosting company that does not over-share, or upgrade to better hosting where you are.

the_sandking thank you for your support, your comment really give me the energy to push the host to explain better there way to act.
I ask them to activate my site in order to check what was the problem and I found that for some reason, the "magic_quotes_gpc" was again ON. I asked again to change it OFF and now, from my part, it looks the site is running with out problem, and I get no errors on my "error log" .

My question is: It is possible that, if the my host for some reason puts the "magic_quotes_gpc" ON on my PHP, the OR will take 80% of the host server mysql resources?

    Grazie!

Very possible, since having it "on" will screw-up any SQL queries that contain data derived from $_GET and $_POST variables by double-escaping them. The search page and search results pages would especially be affected.

What is the exact version of Open-Realty you are running? Also what version of MySQL is running on the server. There was a bug in 3.1.0 and 3.1.1 that caused cause long running quires on Mysql 5.0.x. If you are running that combination of Open-Realty and MySQL servers you should upgrade to 3.1.2

    Thank you the_sandking and Ryan,

Yes, I was using the OR 3.1.1 version. I upgraded to 3.1.2 and hope that what ever was the problem, my host will keep away from my site.

    Grazie!

I noticed last night that my server was showing that it was using between 96% and 100% of the CPU resources. I have a VPS through a host, and I do not know what the specs should be. This was during an import via TransparentRETS. The TransparentRETS site does not give min server specs for CPU, Memory, or processor speed. Any ideas what works or what you have that is working? I think it may be the reason for my many disconnects during the import. I get error messages the reflect the following:
