Default "Mailto:" versus Contact Form -- POLL included

    Hi everyone.

Just looking for opinions about using a "Mailto:" link versus using a Contact Form to have the buyer contact the seller.

Which do you prefer and why?

    Thanks.

IMHO, anyone who develops sites for a living, and also continues to use real email addresses displayed on those sites (as text, mailto: links not images) are doing a great disservice to their clients when feedback forms and methods abound.

    Reason: spambots.

    Nuff said.

Contact froms that pull the email address from the DB AFTER the form is submitted.

    Reason: spambots, email harvestors, etc.

Indeed, I carelessly omitted mentioning this VERY important part of using a contact form. It defeats the entire purpose of preventing harvesters/spambosts if the email address is just a hidden field in the contact form.

sandking--it was a careless ommission but I knew what you meant from your first post. I just added the clarification for others.

RealEstate--There probably is a mod for 1.15 for this. Do a search on the mod section.

    Smile Another choice ???

Considering the crap we all face as internet users, such as viruses, spam, harvesters, and phishing. I am tempted to say "to hell with it all", and go back to the phone, and stamps. Then I have to deal with telemarketers, and junk mail.

On second thought I just go back into my cave.
    Regards,

Here is something you can work with. This was an emergency fix for a friend I did one early morning. It is a little sloppy looking, but it does the trick. The form is in the form of a function you can put in style.php. It does not expose the email of the agent and gives a bit of a format to make it simple for the agent to id the listing being referenced. It does work.
